Legend of the Boneman
The Boneman has a twisted history. In the time of the Plague the bonemen roamed the streets of the dying cities with carts laden with the corpses of the dead, crying out to the living to “Bring out your dead.”
From these dark characters came the Rag-and-bone man of Britain, a curious and mysterious sort of junk dealer. Historically the phrase referred to an individual who would travel the streets of a city with a horse drawn cart, and would collect old rags, (for converting into fabric and paper), bones for making glue, scrap iron and other items, often trading them for other items of limited value.
They would use a distinctive call to alert householders to their presence. The call was something similar to "rag-and-bone", delivered in a sing-song fashion. Long usage tended to simplify the words, for instance down to "raa-boh", even to the point of incomprehensibility, although the locals clearly could identify who could make the call. The voice of the Boneman could never be mistaken.
In the outer darkness of the modern world The Boneman still wanders the night collecting the outcasts of society. The unloved, the dying, the homeless and hopeless all seem to hear the distinctive call of the Boneman. Some will be welcomed into the dark embrace of the Houses, and some will merely be fodder for the burning hungers that wait in the night.

The Oliver Bonewits character is there as a ruse and tells nothing of who or what I am. That is as it should be. I live in the "bible belt" where it isn't always safe to be who and what you are in public. Not that this is a real problem for me. Most people here who know me know who and what I am.
I've spent a great many years looking into corners where other people won't look, and watching for things that others choose to ignore. Some people call them ghosts or demons, I laugh and call them little reality "slips." I've learned that reality is only a perception of what we choose to believe.
There is a fine veneer to what we call reality, and to the majority of Mankind, the true nature of the universe is hidden. In my youth I wandered over a large part of Europe hunting ghosts and visiting native covens in Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland and Italy.
It's funny how some people fill their lives with sex, money, drama, drugs, and personal ambition. I was one of them like many of you. One day I learned a secret that changed my way of looking at things, and tuned my perceptions to see what is there, and understand what is not. It is a secret I could never tell, but can only point the curious in the direction of.
Some say I'm a little old to be on V.R. Some say I fit right in. I'm over 50, am a grandfather of 3 wonderful kids, and live to write. I have a wicked sense of humor which I personify in the character of Oliver Bonewits, and try to find the funny in everything and everybody. I tend to be honest to the point of sometimes being blunt, but it's never done to be hurtful.
So enjoy the tom-foolery of Oliver Bonewits - the Boneman. The real me is under here, but you have to get to know me to find it. Remember - respect is a mutual thing, to get it, you have to give it. Approach me this way, and you will have a good friend.
Approach me with the "bad ass - I'm all that" attitude, and I will forget all about you. YOU SEE, I AM OLD MILITARY - AND I'VE BEEN PLACES THEY NOW TEACH ABOUT IN SCHOOL. I DON'T FRIGHTEN, I DON'T THREATEN, I'M NOT IMPRESSED WITH YOUR BAD ASS GAMES. Go play with the other little kids. Some of us you can't threaten, or push, or intimidate. Some of us have walked through the fires of Hell, kicked ass, and taken names. So, you see, your pettiness won't make a dent in my day and I will be just as happy without you.
